Social Meet-Up @ Cassiobury Park

When: Every Thursday at 1pm
Where: Cassiobury Park, Watford

Looking for a relaxed way to connect with other home-educating families? Join us every Thursday afternoon at Cassiobury Park.

We’re a welcoming group open to everyone – whether you’re brand new to home education or have been on the journey for years. Parents and children of all ages come along to enjoy time together in the fresh air, share experiences, and build friendships.

Cassiobury Park is the perfect setting, with plenty for all ages to enjoy:

  • A large playground and seasonal splash park

  • Open green spaces, woodland walks, and a river

  • Tennis courts, a basketball court, and even a ping-pong table

  • Café for drinks and snacks, plus toilets nearby

Younger children usually enjoy the playground and splash area, while teens have their own meet-up space each week, giving them a bit of independence and freedom to connect with others their age.

There’s no need to book – you’re always welcome to just turn up. However, if you RSVP we’ll be able to send you a reminder, let you know the best way to reach out to others attending, and keep an eye out to welcome you on the day.

Bring a picnic or some snacks if you like, stay for as little or as long as suits you, and enjoy a friendly, flexible afternoon together.

frequently asked questions

Do I need to RSVP?

No – you’re welcome to just turn up on the day. But if you RSVP, we can: - Email you the exact meeting point a couple of days before - Let you know how to get in touch with others joining - Keep an eye out for you to give you a warm welcome

Where do you meet?

The meeting place isn’t listed publicly. If you RSVP, you’ll receive an email with the details a couple of days before.

Is there something for older kids and teens?

Yes. Each week the teens have their own meet-up space in the park, giving them a chance for independence while still being part of the group.

Can we just come once to try it out?

Absolutely! There’s no commitment – some families come every week, others pop along now and then. Everyone is welcome.

What should we bring?

A picnic or snacks if you’d like, water bottles, and whatever makes you comfortable for a couple of hours outdoors (blanket, ball, scooter, tennis rackets, board games etc).

What if it rains?

The cafe has space for us to meet and play board games, so we are unlikely to cancel due to weather.

Are there facilities at the park?

Yes – there’s a café, toilets, playground, splash park (seasonal), tennis and basketball courts, ping-pong, woodland walks, and plenty of space to run around.

Is it suitable for new home-ed families?

Definitely. We’re a welcoming group, and it’s a lovely way to meet others, ask questions, and let your children socialise in a relaxed setting.

I’m not sure my teen will be very chatty – is it still worth coming?

Yes! Many teens take a few weeks to warm up, and that’s absolutely fine. There’s no pressure to join in straight away. Having the park facilities (like the tennis and basketball courts, or just space to walk and hang out) means they can take things at their own pace. Often, just being around others their age helps them feel more comfortable over time.
