FREE Home Ed Cinema Trip – Liverpool

Fancy a FREE cinema trip with other home educating families?

Join us for a screening of Ray Gunn, a visually stunning animated science-fiction detective adventure, as part of the Into Film Festival 2026.

It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a film together, explore some interesting topics and meet other home educating families in your area.

About the Film

Welcome to Metropia, a spectacular retro-futuristic city where skyscrapers tower above flying cars and humans and aliens live uneasily alongside one another.

Raymond Gunn is the city’s last private detective. Alongside his grumpy, one-eyed alien partner Eyera, he’s trying to make an honest living in a city where corruption seems to be everywhere.

When he’s hired to protect superstar singer Venus Nova ahead of her latest album release, what seems like a straightforward job soon turns into a dangerous mystery.

Combining the atmosphere of 1930s detective films with futuristic science fiction, Ray Gunn is an imaginative adventure exploring friendship, integrity, diversity and finding your place in a changing world.

Home Education Links

Into Film recommends this film for ages 8–12, with curriculum links to Citizenship and Human Rights.

There’s plenty to explore beyond the film itself:

  • Citizenship: What does it mean to do the right thing? Explore fairness, corruption, responsibility and standing up for your beliefs.

  • Human Rights: Discuss equality, discrimination and how people from different backgrounds can live alongside one another.

  • English: Discover detective fiction, storytelling, mystery writing and character development.

  • Art & Design: Explore Art Deco architecture, 1930s design and imagined futuristic cities.

  • Media Studies: Look at how animation brings together different genres, including detective noir and science fiction.

Keep the Learning Going

Could you solve a mystery in Metropia?

After the film, challenge your children to create their own detective story. They could invent a mysterious crime, introduce three clues and design a surprising ending.

Or get creative and design a futuristic city where humans and aliens live together. What would its buildings, transport and rules look like?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the cinema trip really free?

Yes! The screening is completely FREE as part of the Into Film Festival, which offers thousands of free cinema screenings for children and young people across the UK. There is no charge for booking through Events4Kids either.

How do I book places?

Simply book a FREE ticket through Events4Kids for everyone attending, including adults. I'll arrange the cinema places with Into Film on your behalf, so you don't need to make a separate booking. Places are subject to availability when I reserve them.

How do we get into the cinema?

You won't receive individual cinema tickets. I'll arrange the group booking with Into Film, and the cinema will have the booking details. On the day, meet our volunteer group lead at the cinema, who will help everyone find one another and check in together. Please arrive at the start time shown above, which is 30 minutes before the film begins. Our volunteer group lead will help everyone find one another and check in together. Into Film screenings start promptly, without the usual trailers.

Do parents need to attend?

Yes. Every child must attend with their parent, guardian or another responsible adult. Each adult is responsible for supervising the children in their care throughout the visit. This is a group outing for home educating families, not a drop-off activity.

What is a volunteer group lead?

For each cinema trip, we need one parent or accompanying adult to act as our group lead. It's a simple role that involves: Arriving early to welcome families. Helping everyone find the group. Being the main contact for cinema staff. Helping the group check in together. You won't be responsible for supervising anyone else's children. Each family remains responsible for its own children. If you're happy to volunteer, please let me know when booking. It's a lovely way to help make these free trips possible!

Can we come if we don't know anyone?

One of the reasons I organise these trips is to help home educating families connect. Whether you're new to home education, new to the area or simply looking for an opportunity for your children to meet others, you're very welcome. There's no pressure to socialise, but hopefully you'll come away having enjoyed a great film and perhaps made a new friend or two.

What if we can no longer attend?

Please let me know as soon as possible if you need to cancel: [email protected] These screenings are provided free of charge by Into Film and participating cinemas, and unused places could otherwise have been offered to another family. Into Film asks for at least 48 hours' notice wherever possible, so please don't leave it until the last minute.

What ages are the films suitable for?

Into Film provides a recommended age range for each film, which you'll find in the event details. These recommendations are based on the film's content and educational themes. Please check the film information and classification to decide whether it's suitable for your child. The Into Film Festival is designed for children and young people aged 5–19.

What if my child has additional accessibility needs?

Accessibility facilities vary between cinemas and screenings. Please check the cinema's accessibility information and the individual Into Film screening details before booking. Some screenings may offer wheelchair access, subtitles, audio description or a relaxed screening environment. For specific requirements, such as reserving audio-description equipment, you can contact the cinema directly.
